PE Sports Premium

At Seton Community Primary school, we strive to ensure that all children have access to a high quality PE curriculum. Each year, school receives additional funding to support this and build sustainability for PE in the future.

The 5 key areas that this funding is aimed at developing are:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in 30 minutes of regular physical activity
  2. The profile of PEESPA being raised across the school as a tool for whole school development.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

The funding received by school in the 2021/22 academic year has been broken down, showing how the funding has been spent to support each key indicator. A full summary of how the funding has been allocated can be found here: Evidencing the Impact of the Primary PE and Sports Premium.

In PE lessons children are taught a range of skills which build on previous knowledge and learning. These skills are taught and applied to a range of different sports, allowing children to explore and develop an interest in a range of areas of sport. Troughout all of the PE lessons, the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) principle is applied to any activity taking place. This allows teachers and children to adapt any activity to make it suitable, yet challenging for all children taking part. Also by using the STEP principle, children can strive to work towards mastering different skills and compete against themselves to improve in any aspect of sport.

As well as engaging in weekly PE lessons, the children at Seton also have access to various competitions hosted at different locations in Whitby. The children participate in competitions against other children from local schools in a range of different sporting events. So far this year we have taken part in:

  • Cross Country
  • KS1 Multi Skills
  • Girls Football
  • Boys Football

We are also going to be participating in:

  • Tag Rugby
  • Cross Country
  • Sports Hall Athletics
