Welcome to Class 2

In Class 2 we aim to make learning an enjoyable experience for all children within a caring environment. Children in Class 2 love to learn through a creative curriculum and we believe that children find such work more engaging; increasing the likelihood of learning and retention of information. The classroom displays are informative and relevant to current topics, which reinforces childrens' learning. Childrens' work is also displayed which shows each child how we value their contributions.

In Class 2 everyone is valued. The children remain motivated through the adventure of learning, enjoying subjects creatively and solving problems. They try new things, take risks and acknowledge and learn from their mistakes. Everyone strives to be the best they can be. We work towards all children becoming happy, confident, independent, creative, secure, caring individuals who achieve success and develop a love of learning. Class 2 are a friendly, imaginative class that promotes respect and politeness, and love to work together as a team.

Spring Term 2023

Our topic for this term is called Bright Lights, Big City. This project teaches children about the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the characteristics and features of the capital city, London.

In this project we will learn the story of a local landmark. We will learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, including their location, capital cities and some of their physical and human features. We will do map work, using compasses and positional and directional language to plan routes around London. We will research the cause and impact of the Great Fire of London and look at some famous London landmarks. We will also learn about other capital cities around the world, including Kuala Lumpur, and compare how they are similar and different to London.

Alongside our main project we will be looking at Seasonal Changes; Human senses; Rain and Sunrays; and Taxi! mini projects.

In Science, we will be learning about the four seasons. We will explore the local environment to experience the weather and examine the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees. We will learn about how the seasons affect animals and make comparisons between them. We will discover what the weather is, what types of weather there are and what causes the weather. We will learn what the weather is like in each season and discover why the lengths of daytime and night-time change in different seasons. We will learn about the Sun and how to protect our skin from the sun’s rays. We will observe and measure the wind and learn how to read the temperature using a thermometer. We will record temperatures over a series of days and measure rainfall in an investigation into the rain. We will learn about weather forecasts and symbols.

In the Human Senses project, we will learn that humans are a type of animal, known as a mammal. We will name body parts and recognise common structures between humans and other animals. We will also learn about senses, the body parts associated with each sense and their role in keeping us safe.

In the Rain and Sunrays project, we will learn about collagraph printing, including how to develop motif to make single and repeated prints.

In Design Technology, we will learn about wheels, axles, and chassis and how they work together to make a vehicle move. We will design, make taxi prototypes and evaluate their completed product.

In History, we will learn about the Great Fire of London. We will talk about the fire, its causes and the impact it had on the city of London. We will learn about the monument that was built near Pudding Lane to commemorate the Great Fire.
